Choosing a bookcase for your little bookworm
A bookcase is a fantastic piece of furniture to tidy your child’s bedroom or playroom. They can be used to tidy books but also provide shelving space for toys and other knick knacks. There is something so appealing to children though when they get to select their own bedtime reading matter. As with most items of children’s furniture there are plenty of book storage spaces to choose from.
Traditional bookcases
Create a mini library in your child’s bedroom with a traditional bookcase. These not only provide ample of space for books, but also are a great space for displaying toys, trophies and games.
Check out our Tweedle range of bookcases, made from solid rubberwood, they come in a choice of 2, 3 and 4 shelf varieties, starting from £199.

Front facing bookshelves
These are typically chosen for very young children and toddlers as they offer the children a unique perspective of being able to see the front cover of the book. They are quite easy to create yourself to using picture ledges on a blank wall. We have one that we created in our showroom. We teamed our shelves with a rocket wall sticker.
Underbed bookcase
Some bookcases are designed to fit underneath a mid-sleeper or high sleeper bed. These can form part of a wider bedroom collection and usually are designed to fit snugly underneath the beds to save space but can also be moved elsewhere in the room as part of modular storage furniture.
Our Butterworth mid-sleeper bed has an optional underbed bookcase available for £149.
Our Jango bookcase is built on castors making it easy to slide under the mid-sleeper and to move to other parts of the room. Available from £149.
Headboard storage
Rather than create a high stack of bedtime books on a bedside table, why not choose a bed with an integrated bookshelf in the headboard. This way a bedtime story is never far away. Choose one of our unique Butterworth bedswith integrated headboard storage.
Keep safe and in good condition
- To help avoid a topple risk, particularly where small children are concerned, we advise that you secure your furniture to the wall to prevent the product from tipping forwards. All our tall bookcases come with wall fixing kits as standard. Our wooden furniture can be really heavy so don’t risk it.
- Do not use substitute parts that are not designed for use with the bookcase. Always contact us directly for replacement parts.
- Do not keep wooden furniture in direct sunlight or directly in front of a radiator to keep your furniture in tip top condition.
Give us bookcase envy, if you have one of our bookcases, show us a picture of it in use, for your chance to win a £25 book token. Competition ends 31.03.19. Email your photos to care@thechildrensfurniturecompany or tag us on Instagram @childrensfurnitureco
